Starting KG1 at ICS Côte d’Azur
A Guide for New Families
Starting school is a big step for both children and parents. At ICS Côte d’Azur, we make this transition smooth, joyful, and reassuring. In KG1, children are gently introduced to school life through a nurturing, play-based environment that supports their social, emotional, and language development. As a bilingual school, we help children begin their journey in both French and English, laying the foundation for confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning in two languages.

Every child deserves the freedom to grow, explore, and thrive — without being boxed in by labels. At ICS we tailor our approach to each individual student.
What makes KG1 special?
At ICS Côte d’Azur, KG1 is where the bilingual journey truly begins. Through a thoughtfully designed, bilingual, play-based curriculum, children are immersed in both French and English from day one — not through sitting still and passive learning, but through joyful songs, shared stories, hands-on discovery and lots of laughter. Our nurturing environment encourages exploration, creativity, and connection, helping each child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. As they play and engage with the world around them, they begin to build confidence, develop their language skills, and take their first steps towards independence.

Supporting the First Days and Weeks
We know that starting school for the very first time is a big step — not just for your child, but for you as well. At ICS Côte d’Azur, we take great care to make this transition as smooth and positive as possible.
Before school even begins, during the enrolment process, your child is warmly invited to visit the school and spend some time in the KG1 classroom to meet their teachers and get familiar with the environment. If your child feels confident, they can even enjoy a morning session to ease into the routine.
From the moment your child arrives, our experienced KG1 team creates a calm, welcoming environment where each child is gently guided to feel safe, secure, and seen. We build trust through routines, warm relationships, and consistent communication — both with the children and with you as parents.
We create individual transition plans tailored to each child’s maturity and needs, gradually moving towards full days when they are ready.
Those early weeks are all about building confidence — in the classroom, in new friendships, and in the joy of coming to school each day. Whether it’s a quiet cuddle, a friendly hand to hold, or a favourite toy waiting on the shelf, we think carefully about what will help each child feel at home.

A Space Designed Just for Them
Our dedicated KG centre is a calm and welcoming cocoon, thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of our youngest learners. Every classroom is filled with natural light, soft colours, and age-appropriate materials that encourage curiosity, independence, and hands-on exploration.
Children have direct access to their own private outdoor area for recess and learning through play, allowing them to move freely between indoor and outdoor spaces in a secure and supervised environment. Each classroom is equipped with child-sized furniture, cosy reading corners, and easy access to bathrooms to support comfort and autonomy throughout the day.
KG1 children also enjoy their own dining area — a calm, familiar space where they can eat together in a relaxed setting — as well as scheduled time in the yoga room, indoor sports hall, and other specialist learning spaces within the Early Years centre.
Everything has been designed with care to make each child feel safe, nurtured, and free to grow at their own pace.
