Primary Years

Toggle Language English to French

At ICS Côte d’Azur, our early years and primary classes follow the bilingual IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages three to 11.

Children join our primary school year groups, Primary Years - PY 1 to 6, from age 5. They attend classes between 8:15 and 15:45, four days a week. On Wednesdays, they attend school for a half-day, between 8:15 and 12:00.

French and English Days

Each child has two homeroom teachers: one who teaches in French and one who teaches in English. PY1 classes are also supported by teaching assistants. Each class group studies one day in French, the following day in English, on a ten-day cycle. Our school offers an intensive language support programme for French as a foreign language (FFL) learners and English as a foreign language (EFL) learners.

Children navigate the inquiry-based PYP curriculum within a bilingual context building valuable skill sets in problem-solving, collaboration and decision making that will positively shape their future.

BOOK A VISIT

Primary Years Curriculum

We welcome students from around the world, offering an internationally-minded education within the inquiry-based framework of the PYP that also integrates key elements of both the national curricula for France and England.

The core subject areas of the PYP are English, French, mathematics, science, arts, social studies and physical, social and personal education.

The PYP enables students to become proactive and well-principled global citizens, on the path to life-long learning, who develop an understanding of how to interact with others in diverse communities.

The programme champions whole child development, whereby students progress both academically and personally, so they have the skills to participate and contribute effectively whatever the environment.

PYP learners know how to take ownership of their learning, collaborating with teachers to deepen understanding and increase their confidence and self-motivation.

PYP Transdisciplinary Themes

Students strengthen their conceptual understanding by studying six transdisciplinary themes.

In addition to the core subjects, primary learners have classes in music and sports in our theatre and on the sports field.

Visiting artists and specialists engage students through hands-on learning events and experiences.

Our students take co-curricular excursions that are linked to and enhance their understanding of the six transdisciplinary themes.

In their final year, students embark on an independent learning journey by exploring an investigation of their choice. They design a personal project, from concept to completion, culminating in the PYP Exhibition.
