Developing Oracy in a Bilingual School: Staff Training

During the February school holidays, our staff training day at our bilingual, international primary school focused on oracy—helping students express themselves confidently in French and English. From Total Physical Response (TPR) vocabulary building to the Language Experience Approach (LEA) for storytelling and writing, we explored dynamic strategies to connect reading, writing, and speaking for our KG1 to PY6 students. 🤝✨

Collaboration between French and English teachers is key to bridging PYP units, ensuring seamless language learning. During this session, they had the opportunity to plan together, exchange best practices, and integrate new strategies into their teaching. From interactive partner work to multimodal storytelling and inquiry-based discussions, our teams are committed to fostering a rich bilingual environment where students develop confidence and fluency across languages. 🌍🗣️📖
