International Day at ICS: A Celebration of our Diversity

International Day at ICS: A Celebration of our Diversity
Jennifer Wallace

International Day is one of the most beloved events at ICS Côte d’Azur—a vibrant celebration of the rich cultural diversity that makes our school community so unique. Our community comes together to share traditions, stories, food, and customs from around the world, creating a joyful and enriching experience for all. It’s a day filled with learning, laughter, and discovery, where we celebrate what makes us different and recognise the values we all share.

A big thank you to all the PA members for your amazing support during International Day—your stands, stories, and smiles made it a wonderful celebration of our school’s diversity. And a special shout-out to ICS parent Laure and teacher Ms Nicky for their creativity, time, and dedication in bringing the day to life. It was a truly memorable event—thank you!

International Day is much more than dressing up in traditional costumes or trying delicious food from around the world. It was about embracing diversity, learning from one another, and finding strength in the rich cultural tapestry that unites us. The day encouraged curiosity, open-mindedness, and respect for different ways of life—values that are essential in today’s world.

Some of the highlights included:

  • Children going through "customs and passport control" with their handmade passports, thanks to Laure’s creative touch (Head of School Ms. Gina took her role of security officer very seriously)
  • Learning and performing the Haka, the powerful Māori dance from New Zealand often seen before rugby matches.
  • Exploring cultures from all around the globe, through food tasting and learning about local wildlife, all while surrounded by images, drums, and music.
  • Fun games, like identifying animals, landmarks, and learning new words.
  • Tasting traditional sweet and savory dishes from across the globe—including the brave ones who gave Marmite a try!
  • Contributing to a world map by placing pins to show where each student is from—a beautiful visual of our school’s diversity.

This event reminded us all how powerful it is to celebrate where we come from while learning about others. Thank you to everyone who made it so special.
