Why Every Child Should Experience a Residential Trip at ICS Côte d’Azur ?

At ICS Côte d’Azur, we believe that some of the most powerful learning happens beyond the classroom walls. While academic success is important, we are equally committed to helping our students grow into confident, independent, and compassionate young people. Our residential trips starting from PY3 (age 7) play a vital role in this journey, providing experiences that challenge, inspire, and create memories that last a lifetime.

Every year, students eagerly anticipate their residential trips, and it is easy to see why. These experiences offer so much more than a change of scenery. They give children the opportunity to discover new interests, develop essential life skills, strengthen friendships, and gain confidence in themselves.

This year, our students enjoyed a variety of unforgettable adventures. Our PY5 students travelled to Paris, where they explored world-famous landmarks, took part in the Globeducate Robotics Challenge, discovered interactive science exhibits, and immersed themselves in French history and culture. Meanwhile, our PY3 and PY4 students spent an exciting week at Le Logis du Pin in La Martre, enjoying outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, archery, climbing, and animal care experiences. Although the destinations and activities were different, the outcomes were remarkably similar: students returned home more confident, more independent, and full of enthusiasm for learning.

Last year, our PY6 students embarked on an incredible week-long expedition to Tuscany, Italy. This immersive journey brought history and science to life as the students explored the iconic sights of Pisa and Florence, discovered Leonardo da Vinci’s genius in Vinci, and studied early astronomy at the Galileo Museum. By directly connecting classroom lessons to real-world historical and scientific landmarks, this trip perfectly illustrated why experiential travel is so vital. As it transforms abstract academic concepts into meaningful, hands-on discoveries and creates lasting memories that inspire a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.

One of the greatest benefits of a residential trip is the growth in independence that children experience. For many students, it is their first opportunity to spend several days away from home in a supportive and familiar environment. They learn to organise their belongings, manage daily routines, solve small challenges independently, and take responsibility for themselves. Parents are often amazed by the maturity and self-confidence their children demonstrate when they return.

Residential trips also create opportunities for friendships to flourish. Sharing meals, participating in team activities, overcoming challenges together, and enjoying new experiences helps students build stronger connections with their classmates and teachers. These shared moments often become some of the happiest and most memorable parts of their school years.

As an IB World School, we also see residential trips as a powerful way to bring the learner profile to life. Students become risk-takers when they try something new, communicators when they work as a team, caring when they support one another, and open-minded when they encounter different places, people, and perspectives. The lessons learned during these experiences are often just as valuable as those learned in the classroom.

Most importantly, residential trips allow children to discover what they are capable of. Whether it is speaking up in a group, climbing higher than they thought possible, navigating a challenge with friends, or simply spending time away from home successfully, these achievements help build resilience and self-belief.

At ICS Côte d’Azur, residential trips are not simply an extra activity—they are an essential part of our educational experience. They help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally while creating lasting memories and a sense of adventure. We encourage every family to embrace these opportunities and give their children the chance to learn, explore, and thrive beyond the classroom.
