PY2 and PY4 students were thrilled to welcome Canadian author and illustrator Magic Mike for a special storytelling workshop. He began by inviting students to share their funniest stories about people they know being grumpy — siblings were a popular choice!

Mike then read the first chapter of his latest book, Krumpp’s First Taste, which follows the adventures of a very grumpy man. Students were captivated as he brought the character to life through expressive reading and humour.
To give a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, Mike shared a time-lapse video showing just how long it takes to complete a single illustration. He also answered thoughtful student questions about where his ideas come from and how he turns them into stories and drawings.
Before wrapping up, he challenged the students to think about what sparks their imagination and inspires them to write or draw. Judging by their enthusiasm, we’re sure many left the workshop brimming with creative ideas!
