Globeducate STEAM Days Roundup

Globeducate STEAM Days Roundup
Jennifer Wallace

We celebrated Globeducate STEAM Days last week in conjunction with UNESCO World Science Day. Several of our classes had the exciting opportunity to visit The Hub, where they took part in an engaging STEAM activity led by our STEAM coordinator, Maitresse Gabrielle.

STEAM is an interdisciplinary and project-based approach to teaching science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. In practice it means using technology to get creative and tackle hands-on projects to deepen knowledge and understanding. It’s a great way to help children learn how to work as a team, solve problems, and apply knowledge learned in the classroom in a new context.

Here are some examples of recent activities tied to the Globeducate Arts Competition and Eco School theme of ‘Water / Marine’ :

  • PY1B designed and built LEGO boats equipped to scan the ocean for rubbish and collect it.
  • Our PY2 students designed underwater superheroes with unique powers to clean up the ocean. They illustrated their characters and added specific materials that would help them in their mission, explaining the science behind each choice.
  • Our PY3 students explored the ocean water column, learning about its distinct zones. Working in groups, they created small models representing their assigned zones, showcasing the types of marine flora and fauna found there, all crafted from recycled materials!
  • Our PY4 made a machine to clean up the seas using recycled materials.

Next week we’ll be sharing the results of our student votes for the Globeducate Arts Competition!
