Inspiring Global Citizens: A Visit from the Mayor

Our PY6 students were honoured to welcome the Mayor of Callian (a town in the Var region, near to our location), M. Cavallier and the Director of General Affairs, M. Noviant to their classroom last Thursday for a lively discussion on the role of a mayor and how towns and cities are organised.

The visit was highly interactive, with every student posing thoughtful questions. Topics ranged from the mayor’s career path and decision-making process to budgets, voting procedures, the responsibilities of the town hall, and even the most challenging aspects of the job.

This experience embodied the spirit of the PYP, as students demonstrated their curiosity, critical thinking, and research skills while exploring how society is structured. They also discovered the importance of community roles, the value of participation, and how differences of opinion can be resolved in constructive ways, which in turn, is what constitutes a democracy.
