PY1 Students Create LEGO Village
PY1 Students Create LEGO Village
Jennifer Wallace
PY1 are at the end of their unit, 'How We Organise Ourselves,' which has focused on the central idea that 'people play important roles in our community to keep everything organised.'
Throughout this term, students have been exploring various professions and how individuals collaborate to ensure society functions smoothly. These are profound philosophical concepts for young learners, but they've been brought to life through engaging examples. Parents visited the class to share insights into their jobs and how teamwork is essential in their professions. The students also created their own model village, complete with shops, businesses, and homes.
The culmination of the term was a fantastic STEAM project where the entire class collaborated to build a LEGO village. Students first selected which buildings to include, then worked in pairs to construct them. Their village featured a library, fire station, doctor’s office, veterinary clinic, police station, and more!
