PY4 Explore the Ile Sainte-Marguerite on a Residential Trip
Jennifer Wallace

Last week, our PY4 students embarked on an exciting adventure to the Ile Sainte Marguerite, an island off the coast of Cannes. From the moment they arrived by ferry, their days were filled with a blend of outdoor activities, hands-on learning, and teamwork. With everything from archery and orienteering to fishing and exploring tide pools, the students embraced the opportunity to discover the natural beauty and history of the island. Each day brought new challenges and fun, culminating in a lively party to celebrate their final night. Here's a closer look at their unforgettable week!

Monday: They arrived on the island by ferry, collected their bags and walked up to the fort where they would be staying for the week. After learning some important safety information and being shown around the facilities, they went for a forest walk across the island before coming back for dinner and activities.

Tuesday: Despite the weather warnings the sun was shining on the island! The students learnt all about archery and had to work in teams to hit the targets and gain the most points. Afterwards they explored another area of the island on foot (no cars here!)

Wednesday: After breakfast the students walked along the coastline and an instructor found a spot to teach them all about fishing. Students weighted down traps with stones and put fish food inside to try and catch something. Whilst they waited for their traps to work, they were given buckets to look for flora and fauna in the tide pools. Snails, seaweed, sponges and one crab was found! Alas, with the big waves no fish were caught, all the traps were empty! In the afternoon they visited the Fort museum and learnt all about the man in the iron mask. In the evening they played in the games room.

Thursday: In the morning the students enjoyed a great game of disc golf, and after lunch they had an orienteering class where they learnt all about using a compass and had to follow a trail. In the evening they enjoyed the famous ‘boum’! A party to celebrate their last night on the island.

Friday: Students packed their bags and tidied their rooms and enjoyed one final walk on the island. After lunch they caught the ferry back to Cannes to see their parents again!
