Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing

At our school, we believe that academic success can only be achieved when every pupil feels heard, valued, and supported.

Our wellbeing policy is built on a holistic approach that embraces the emotional, social, physical, and mental dimensions of a child’s development. To support this commitment, we have put several key initiatives in place:

A young student in a blue sports shirt points at a policeman that he has drawn

Educational programmes that foster empathy, cooperation, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.

3 male students sit around a table, one holds a pencil, they are debating a topic

Dedicated spaces and moments for dialogue, giving pupils the opportunity to express themselves freely and receive support when needed.

An early years teaching assistant helps two students with a project

A teaching team trained in active listening, identifying signs of distress, and providing caring and compassionate guidance.

A female student in a blue sports t shirt smiles as she sits on the sports pitch

Initiatives focused on physical activity, life balance, and raising awareness around healthy habits.

We also place great importance on creating a positive school climate. Promoting respect, tolerance, diversity, and positive relationships is central to our approach. This work is carried out in close partnership with families to ensure consistent support aligned with each child’s needs.

Our goal is simple: to offer every pupil a calm, stimulating, and deeply human learning environment in which they can grow, learn, and truly flourish.

Statement of Safeguarding and Child Protection

ICS Côte d’Azur International School fully recognises the contribution it can make to protect children from harm and to support and promote the welfare of all children who are registered students at our School.
The elements of our policy are early help, prevention, protection and support.

Purpose

The purpose of ICS Côte d'Azur's safeguarding policy is to ensure every student who is registered at our preschool and primary school is safe and protected from harm.  This means we will always work to:

  • Identify emerging problems and provide effective early help;

  • Protect children and young people at our school from maltreatment;

  • Prevent impairment of our children’s and young people’s health or development;

  • Ensure that children and young people at our school grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;

  • Enable children and young people at our school to have the best outcomes.

All staff undertake appropriate child protection training at induction that is updated regularly (at least once per year);

  • Designated Safeguarding Roles and other key staff will undertake more in-depth training as appropriate. This will include designated lead training at appropriate intervals, as and when required (at least annually).

  • Appropriate filters and monitoring systems are in place to safeguard children from potentially harmful and inappropriate online materials. Care will be taken not to “Over block” online access which could lead to unreasonable restrictions and a missed opportunity to teach children about online safety.

  • During the enrolment/re-enrolment process, you are given a contract to sign with further information about our data-protection policy and photo/video authorisation policy.

Key Personnel

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for child protection is Morgane Scherlen (Head of Early Years). She is responsible for overseeing all safeguarding and child protection matters within the school, ensuring that policies are followed, concerns are promptly addressed, and the welfare of every child is prioritised.

All ICS staff, students and parents can arrange a meeting with Morgane in person or by phone, or contact her via email. Please contact the school for any further information.
